{Travel}: What to do in Asakusa and Akihabara, Tokyo Japan

Hey guys! Next up on our trip to Tokyo is our day exploring the area of Asakusa! We started our day in Asakusa making our way towards one of the main attractions of the area which is the Nakamise shopping street. Here you will find an entire area filled with adorable little shops that sell souvenirs, tasty snacks, and even kimonos for dogs!

I toootally recommend tasting these little pancake treats that are filled with bean paste (doesn't sound tasty, but they really are!). They are made fresh right in front of you and taste super good! Take your time walking around and seeing what each shop has to offer, until you make your way to the ancient Buddhist temple at the end of the street.

Empezamos nuestro día caminando hacia la atracción más popular de Asakusa que es la calle de tienditas de Nakamise. Aquí podrán encontrar muchísimos shops pequeños con recuerdos, dulces, y hasta kimonos para perros!

Recomiendo muchísimo que prueben unos bocadillos que venden en este área que son como mini pancakes rellenos de una pasta de frijoles dulce (no suena rico, pero sí lo son!). Te las hacen fresquitas en el momento y saben deliciosos!! Tómate tu tiempo explorando este área y viendo qué ofrecen en cada tiendita, hasta que lleguen al templo Budista localizado al final de la calle.

The Sensō-ji Temple is Tokyo's oldest temple and definitely a place worth visiting. The outside architecture is gorgeous, as well as the beautiful paintings on all the ceilings. If you want to slow down and relax, they also have a small garden and river alongside the temple filled with colorful Koi fish, the national fish of Japan.

El templo de Sensō-ji es el templo más antiguo de todo Japón y definitivamente vale la pena visitarlo. La arquitectura del templo es precioso y lleno de muchísimos detalles. Al entrar al templo, podrás apreciar unas pinturas espectaculares en el techo a lo largo del edificio. Si quieren relajarse un rato, tienen un jardín pequeño a un lado del templo que además tiene un río lleno de peces Koi coloridos, que son los peces emblemáticos de Japón.

If you have extra time, a nice walk around the east bank of the Sumida River is a fun way to enjoy the view of several unique looking skyscrapers. In particular, the Asahi Beer Hall (the one with a golden flame on top) is a pretty interesting sight as it is considered one of Tokyo's most recognizable modern structures. They also have some delicious ice cream spots in the area that are a great way to cool off under the bright sun.

Si tienes tiempo extra, date un paseo por el lado este del río Sumida para disfrutar de la vista de edificios únicos y llamativos. En particular, el Asahu Beer Hall (el edificio que tiene una llama dorada encima) es bastante interesante. Es más, este edificio es considerado una de las estructuras modernas más reconocidas de Tokyo. En esta área también pueden disfrutar de varios locales que ofrecen helados deliciosos para refrescarte bajo el sol ardiente.

Ok guys, if you like food and sweets (like I do), then pay close attention to the following recommendation. You MUST visit a little stand by the Sekai Cafe that sells THE most delicious melonpan ice cream sandwiches. What is melonpan you ask?! It's a type of sweet bun from Japan that has a rich soft dough in the inside, but a thin layer of crisp cookie dough on the outside. Oh yeah, that sounds DELISH. And that's not all, the little food stand I'm talking about grabs two of these melonpans hot out of the oven and puts a ball of ice cream between them.... guys, it is seriously one of the tastiest things I ate in Japan!! You MUST GO! ;)

Si ustedes son amantes de la comida y los dulces (como yo!), entonces presten muchísima atención a mi próxima recomendación. TIENEN que visitar un stand de comida al lado del Sekai Cafe en Asakusa que vende sandwiches de helado de melonpan. Se estarán preguntando, qué es melonpan?! Es un tipo de pan dulce famosísimo en Japón que es suavecito por dentro pero con una capa crujiente de galleta por fuera. Oh sí, suena DE-LI-CIOSO. Y eso no es todo, este stand de comida agarra dos melonpans recién sacados calientitos del horno y pone una bola de helado entre ellos... chicos, seriamente este postre fue de las cosas más deliciosos que probé en Japón!! TIENEN que ir!! ;)

That pretty much sums up our day in Asakusa! After our fun day of exploring, we decided to spend the evening in a different district of Tokyo: Akihabara, the Anime district!! Oh yes, all you fellow geeks that have been obsessed with Japanese anime definitely need to take the time to visit the Akihabara district!! They have tons and tons of stores with manga, collectible anime figurines, and fun toys of our favorite videogame characters. In particular, I would recommend the Kotobukiya store that has a wiiiiide variety of products of crowd favorites like Mario Bros, Final Fantasy, Star Wars, and Pokemon.

And there you have it everyone! Another fun day in Tokyo that I'm so happy to share with all of you. We only have a couple of days left of the trip to post about, so stay tuned for more recommendations :)

Y ese fue básicamente todo lo que hicimos en nuestro día explorando Asakusa!! Decidímos aprovechar la noche para explorar rapidito otro área de Tokyo: Akihabara, el distrito del Anime! Oh sí, todos mis compañeros geek que están obsesionados con Anime japonesa definitivamente tienen que visitar el distrito de Akihabara!! Tienen miles de tiendas que venden manga, figuras collecionables de anime, y juguetes divertidos de nuestros videojuegos favoritos. En particular, recomiendo el local de Kotobukiya porque tiene una graaaaan variedad de productos de personajes populares de Mario Bros, Final Fantasy, Star Wars, y Pokemon.

Y allí lo tienen chicos! He disfrutado muchísimo compartir con ustedes otro día de diversión en Tokyo. Todavía me queda por publicar recomendaciones de unas cositas más para poder finalizar nuestro viaje a Japón, así que quédense en sintonía de más posts pronto!!
