{Fiestas Patrias}: DIY No-Sew Pollera Clutch
Hi guys!! To finish off my series of Fiestas Patrias inspired posts, today I bring you this super unique Panamanian pollera inspired clutch project!! For my international readers, the pollera is the national dress of Panama that features a beautiful floral design, pearl tembleque headpieces, and lots of gold accessories.
-- En Español -- Hola chicos! Para finalizar mi serie de posts inspirados en las Fiestas Patrias, hoy les traigo este clutch único y diferente inspirado en la pollera Panameña! Para mis lectores internacionales, la pollera es el vestido nacional de Panamá y suele estar hecho con una tela floral hermosa, adornos de tembleques en el cabello, y muchos accesorios dorados.
To create this clutch at home, you will need a clutch as a base (I used an old dirty one that I was about to give away!), pollera fabric, red yarn, red rope, small faux pearls, a hot glue gun, and scissors.
Then you just need to follow the next steps:
1. Start off by placing your clutch on top of the fabric and outlining it in pencil leaving about 1-2 inches extra.
2. After cutting out this shape, start folding in the edges and gluing them to the clutch using your hot glue gun.
3. Continue to fold inwords the edges of the fabric and holding it in place with the hot glue gun.
4. Use scissors to cut a small hole for the clasp of the clutch to peek through.
5. Fold the last bit of fabric all the way inside the clutch and hold it in place with hot glue.
6. Trace and cut a piece of fabric in the shape of the inside of your clutch...
7. ... and glue it on top to make the inside prettier ;)
8. You are all done wrapping the clutch! Leave it simple, or continue through to add more pizazz.
9. To create the tassels, start by wrapping red yarn several times around 4 fingers.
10. Use a small piece of yarn to tie one end of the tassel.
11. Cut the hoops on the bottom of the tassel. And there you have it!
12. Use glue to add the tassels along the inside line of your clutch.
13. Hot glue small pearls on to each tassel.
14. Hot glue red rope to the edge of the top of the clutch to outline its shape.
All done!
Para crear este clutch en casa, van a necesitar un clutch de base (yo use uno viejo y sucio que estaba a punto de regalar!), tela de pollera, lana roja, cuerda roja, perlitas pequeñas, una pistola de goma caliente, y tijeras.
Luego solo necesitas seguir los próximos pasos:
1. Comienza colocando tu clutch arriba de la tela y luego utiliza un lápiz para delinear el clutch dejando entre 1-2 pulgadas extras alrededor.
2. Corta lo que acabas de dibujar y comienza a pegar los bordes de la tela sobre el interior de clutch utilizando la pistola de goma.
3. Continua doblando los bordes de la tela y pegándolo a lo largo del interior del clutch.
4. Utiliza las tijeras para cortar un agujero pequeño en la tela para dejar salir el broche del clutch.
5. Dobla el último pedazo de tela dentro del clutch y sugétalo con la goma caliente.
6. Delinea y corta un pedazo de tela en la forma de la parte interior del clutch...
7. ... y pégalo en la parte superior del clutch para hacer el interior más bonito ;)
8. Y ya terminaron de forrar el clutch! Lo pueden dejar sencillo, o continuar para añadir más detalles.
9. Para crear las borlas, comienza envolviendo la lana roja varias veces alrededor de tus 4 dedos.
10. Utiliza un pequeño retazo de lana para atar un extremo de la borla.
11. Corta los aros en la parte inferior de la borla. ¡Y listo!
12. Usa goma caliente para pegar las borlas a lo largo de la línea interior del clutch.
13. Pega pequeñas perlas en cada borla.
14. Pega cuerda roja al borde de la parte superior del clutch para delinear su forma.
¡Y listo!
I am absolutely in love with this pollera clutch! Apart from the pretty pollera print, also please note how the tassels are inspired by the pollera's pompom, while the pearls represent the pollera's tembleques!

Estoy completamente enamorada con mi nuevo clutch de pollera!! Aparte de la tela linda de pollera, noten también que las borlas de lana están inspiradas en el pompon de la pollera; y las perlitas representan los tembleques!
