Lima, Peru Lima, Peru

  Friday May 24, 2013

Here are a couple of photos of our second and last day in Lima, Perú! Today I spent most of my day at a work convention, so I went with a more conservative professional outfit. I felt ready to get down to business in this look!

Once we were done with the work convention, we changed into more comfortable clothes so that we could see more of Lima. We decided to visit a charming park that featured 13 different pretty water fountains!

Apart from all the pretty fountains, they also had a light show that projected images on spraying water. It was amazing to see the amount of detail projected on the water!

I think my favorite fountain was one that randomly shot water from the floor and you had to run across hoping you wouldn't get wet. It was fun to run around the fountains like kids, and we definitely DID get soaked! hahaha.

That pretty much wraps up my second day in Lima! Stay tuned to see photos of my first day in Cusco, Perú!

Traveling to Lima, Peru Traveling to Lima, Peru

  Thursday May 23, 2013

Hello everyone!! Here are a couple of photos of what I wore to travel to Lima, Perú! This floral trench coat is definitely one of my favorite pieces and I love taking it with me when I travel. I decided to pair it with my leather leggings for a comfy but chic traveling outfit!

Traveling to Lima, Peru

This trip to Perú really came about because my brother Tom and I had a business convention to attend to in Lima. Of course we decided to add a couple of days to our business trip so that we could visit Machu Picchu and other touristic areas. I can't wait to show you all the photos!

Once we finally arrived at our hotel in Lima, we decided to have a quick bite to eat at the Hotel's restaurant. I wanted to taste a traditional Peruvian dish, so I decided to order a ceviche and a lomo salteado (sautéed loin) whereas my brother decided to have swordfish. We even tasted the famous Peruvian drink Pisco Sour which was super yummy!

Comfy in Plaid Comfy in Plaid

  Wednesday May 22, 2013

Today I wanted to wear something colorful but at the same time very comfy and casual. What better than a cozy plaid shirt and a pair of comfy flats right?!

I wore this outfit out to dinner with my family at a lovely place called Pencas in the Causeway. There is nothing like enjoying a delicious dinner with your family right by the sea :)

And we finished the night off by seeing Dralion, by Cirque du Soleil!! For those of you who don't know, I am a big Cirque du Soleil fan, so it was a real treat to see all the stunts and live music! It was just such a lovely day :)

Today I am wearing my heart on my heels!! Well, not exactly, but aren't these heart tights cute?! I have had them for several months now and I'm so happy to finally wear them for the first time :)

I went with a girly vibe today by pairing the heart tights with the cute floral dress and the heart sunglasses. I know it might be an overdose of cute elements for some of you, but I love how it all looks together!

Today I went to a lovely dinner party at my boyfriend's house. I had a lovely time eating away with his family and talking about how excited I am about my trip to Peru!

What made today even more special is that my boyfriend surprised me with a new monkey!!! Meet Gregory, the new monkey member of our family... hehe. I must have at least 15 monkeys now ;)

Colorful Outfit

Hello everyone! A lovely reader asked me the other day how I manage to have the courage to dress the way I do without any fear of what other's may think. I thought it was a great question and I would love to share with all of you how I have become confident enough to be myself despite the opinion of others.

In Panama most everyone dresses the same:

First of all I think it is important to point out that in Panama (my home country in case you didn't know) most everyone dresses the same. You can find most women wearing jeans, a nice blouse, and a pair of heels; or a pretty dress with a pair of heels. Of course there is nothing wrong with that, but there aren't that many people here who dare push the envelope and make a statement. I would like to think that I am one of those people who step out of the box from time to time (blue tights anyone?!).

I was raised to be different:

I would have to say that the main reason why I am not afraid of what other people think of me is because of my parents. Ever since I can remember my parents have been encouraging me to be myself no matter what. My parents taught me that being different is a good thing and that this is precisely what makes us unique. Why would we want to be like everyone else in the world when you can be you?

My brother also played his roll:

Its funny for me to think that Tom, one of my three brothers, actually played a huge role in this as well. When we were children, Tom would tease me to no end. With the smallest of jokes or childish insults, I would always end up crying in a corner with my feelings hurt. My father taught me that the only way I wouldn't get hurt would be if I put a shield in front of my heart and wouldn't let anyone's words affect me. I know that sounds childish, but putting this advice to good use with my brother made me a master in not caring about what other people think.

Note: in case you are wondering, my brother Tom and I get along wonderfully now ;)

Having a supportive boyfriend or friend helps:

I haven't always been confident enough to wear daring things you know. When I was in high school, I would wear your typical jeans + a t-shirt + sneakers combo pretty much every day. It was when I started dating my boyfriend Alejandro that I built up my confidence enough to step out of the box. The fact that he loves me no matter what I wear allows me to take risks without the fear of being judged.

While my boyfriend and I were in collage together in the U.S., I started to test new styles and take more risks when it came to fashion. All of the other college girls would wear their Ugg boots, leggings, and North Face jackets (not that there is anything wrong with that); whereas I would strut down the halls with my bright printed dresses, bold purple tights, and funky looking hats. I got a lot of stares, but I knew it didn't matter because I was being true to myself.

Colorful OutfitColorful Outfit

Live your life for yourself, not others:

If I were to be completely honest, I would have to say that I actually enjoy being different from others. I  enjoy being the crazy girl wearing blue tights; or the wacky women walking around with a bold hat. That is who I am and I like to demonstrate it. I like to show others that they have no power over me and that I am free to live my life as I see fit. We only have one life to live, so why live it just trying to please others?

Colorful OutfitColorful Outfit

To sum up, I hope you all remember that being different is what makes you special! Never compromise who you are and what you love for the fear of what other people may think of you. You are perfect just the way you are, so don't be afraid to always follow your heart.
