Comments:
Today is the first of three days where I will be presenting for a group of transfer students at a special event at my university. For this presentation, I was paired with a close colleague of mine that had just one request for me to comply with: wear less colors.... and I was like What!?!?! jaja
She explained that my style is very "rainbow" while her style is very "black and white" (interesting theory huh?). So basically, she wanted me to dress in an all black and white outfit, and to be honest, I thought that wasn't fair at all! Why should I change to the way she dresses? right? So, I proposed that we both put an effort in matching up. The deal is that I would try to wear more "black and white" and she would try to wear more colors in her outfit.
Hence, today's black and white outfit with a pop of color. I think I did a good job balancing her wishes while still remaining true to myself. At the end of the day, it's important to feel comfortable in your own skin rather than trying to please other people... or at least that's my philosophy :)
Here are all the ways in which I've worn this floral skirt:

I think you did a great job doing B&W with a pop of color! HOpefully she got the memo to wear more color!
ReplyDeleteclothed much, a modest fashion blog
I'm glad you reached a compromise, hopefully she wears more color all the time!
ReplyDeleteThat's kind of crazy-- you do color so well, maybe you should put together some looks for your colleague!
ReplyDeleteIt´s nice of you to be open to others suggestions and giving it a try. After all lots of this is having fun together. She should be happy with your selection. Your blue pop is a mild one and a necessary one as all black and white needs some pop. I personally find your bright colors the rainbow for my day...plus there is a pot of gold at the end of it--you. jgm
ReplyDeleteI agree that it's a little unfair of her to make such a request. Asking you to dress differently from your norm just to make her feel more comfortable about the way she dresses is a little inappropriate, in my opinion. It sounds as though she's very insecure and feared being overshadowed by you. I can understand that, because I tend to have low self-esteem and feel overshadowed by many of my friends.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, all that to say that you are a lovely person for being willing to compromise, to be true to yourself and yet accomodating to your colleague at the same time. Kudos to you!
PS - I love that skirt! And the blue cardigan! And the entire outfit!
These are such pretty pictures. I absolutely love the skirt.
ReplyDeleteAnd I can't believe your collegue asked you to do that!
that seems really unfair that you can't dress the way you want to. either way you did a great job at compromising. you still look so cute and so well put together.
ReplyDeleteLovely blue cardigan;)
ReplyDeleteI like the rich blue with black and white, very nice. And a black and white floral pattern seems subdued but elegantly feminine. I really like it! Hope your colleague was comfy with it too.
ReplyDeleteI love the compromise! That skirt is very pretty. Love the new layout btw.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for you sweet comment and the feature. I'm a new follower and added you to my blog roll. You have a great blog - I can't wait to read more!
ReplyDeleteLove the belt-over-cardigan look! And that quilted purse is adorable :)
ReplyDeleteYou have a great eye for color. I like your colleague, love the black and white, but this outfit should please her. The great pop of color, that wonderful cobalt blue really makes the outfit shine. Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI love wearing black and white - but I would never ask someone to change what they wear - I think that was rather rude of her!!!
ReplyDeleteAnd also it would of made me want to wear MORE colour just to pee her off LOL
I LOVE this skirt it is SO something I would wear myself and I love the outfit you made around it!!
Your just too nice!!
Sal xXx
PS have a great weekend!
